Approximately 400 people marched in support of immigrant rights this morning in a “Somos Americanos” event, where members of Denver’s immigrant and Latino communities demanded an end to federal raids.

The march was organized by a variety of local social justice groups, including La Escuela Tlatelolco, the Colorado American Friends Service Committee and the Chicano Studies Department at the Metro State College of Denver.

Nita Gonzales, daughter of the late Chicano activist Rodolfo “Corky” Gonzales, helped lead the march, and Denver City Council representative Paul Lopez was also in front of the march, chanting “Obama Sí, Raids No!”

The event started at Rude Park near INVESCO Field (Mile High Stadium) at around 9 a.m. and ended in Lincoln Park, southwest of downtown Denver, at 11 a.m.
