It didn’t take long for Arizona State Senate President Russell Pearce’s opponents to gather enough signatures to force a recall election. More than 8000 signatures have been certified already, several hundred more than were needed.

Governor Jan Brewer will set the date of the recall, either this November or next March.

Those organizing the recall have said it is not just about immigration–Pearce was the author of Arizona’s famous bill, and has helped legislators in many other states write similar bills–but also has to with his performance in general.

Shortly after the recall effort was announced Colorado’s Bay Buchanan and Tom Tancredo sent out an appeal for funds to help Pearce defend his seat.
